One month old

Nicea is now one month old. It's hard to believe that I was pregnant only one month ago, yet it's hard to imagine our life without her. We had a rough first couple of weeks with my health and adjusting to our new sleep schedule (getting up every 2 hours to feed and change diapers). But, we are starting to get the hang of things (I think?). The update on my health is that my blood pressure is stable, although I'm still on blood pressure medication to keep it low for at least another 2 weeks. I will see the midwives again at that time and they'll re-evaluate it then (although preecclampsia usually resolves by 6 weeks after birth).
Nicea's life has been quite busy as well. This month, we took Nicea to Leavenworth (a Bavarian themed town in the mountains) for the first time. It was definitely different having her along with us and stopping for feedings, but she did as well or better than I thought she would. She got a little sick of the carseat at the end, but who could blame her?
We've had many visitors, including her great-Grandma Patti, her cousin Stephanie and her Aunt Lori from Portland. That was a special treat. We've had many visitors from church, family and friends, a few family gatherings, and even a baby shower for a friend. Needless to say, she has been held and adored about 90% of her life at this point.
Brant and I have adjusted well I think. It's still a challenge to find time when she is sleeping to spend just the two of us, but we'll figure it out. Brant is fantastic with her. He spends the hours between 10pm and 1am with her while I get some sleep. They watch movies, rock and bounce the night away. Unfortunately, those are her fussy hours, I planned it that way :), so he is very good at soothing her.
We are so in love with our little girl and are thankful to the Lord for her precious life. Sleep or no sleep, we wouldn't trade this new life for the world. She is so beautiful, it's hard to keep our eyes off of her.

  1. Yay! I was glad to see a new post! It's so hard to try to talk at church...we need to have you guys over for dinner again soon! She is lovely. The time together will happen, just treat it all like a Benedictine monk and you will be fine! ;)
